Mr. Mason

asked the Lord Privy Seal how many Select Committee reports have been submitted since June 1983; how many have been debated in the House; and what recommendations have been accepted.

Mr. Biffen

Excluding the reports of the Committee of Selection, a total of 22 Select Committee reports have been made since June 1983, 12 from the European Legislation Committee, nine from the Public Accounts Committee and one from the House of Commons (Services) Committee. None of these reports has been debated as such, although a number of European documents which the European Legislation Committee had recommended for debate in the House were debated on 1 December 1983—common agricultural policy—and on 7 December 1983—common fisheries policy.
