HC Deb 01 February 1984 vol 53 cc212-3W
Mr. Parry

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) of those arrested at the Messenger group printers, Warrington, how many have been prosecuted and how many convicted at the latest available date;

(2) if he will call for a report from the chief constable of Cheshire as to the number of persons arrested at the Messenger group premises, Warrington, up to the latest date; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Hurd

The chief constable tells me that 144 people, including two who were arrested twice on different occasions were arrested between 9 November and 1 December 1983 and that no one has been arrested since then. One hundred and forty-one of these were charged. By 27 January, 44 had been dealt with by the courts. Each of them was convicted of at least one offence.
