HC Deb 01 February 1984 vol 53 c261W
Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the current total average cost of an assessment for industrial disablement benefit by (a) a medical board, and (b) a medical appeal tribunal.

Mr. Newton

The costs include the payment of fees and expenses to members of medical boards and appeal tribunals, and the reimbursement of expenses incurred by claimants, appellants and witnesses. These averaged £30 for a medical board and £80 for a medical appeal tribunal in 1982–83. In addition, there is a cost for departmental staff supporting these bodies. Separate figures for these are not available.
