§ Mr. NewtonThe costs include the payment of fees and expenses to members of medical boards and appeal tribunals, and the reimbursement of expenses incurred by claimants, appellants and witnesses. These averaged £30 for a medical board and £80 for a medical appeal tribunal in 1982–83. In addition, there is a cost for departmental staff supporting these bodies. Separate figures for these are not available.
