HL Deb 01 February 1984 vol 447 cc757-8WA
Lord Blease

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will indicate

  1. (i) what is the usual DHSS (United Kingdom) provision of Health Education Officers;
  2. (ii) what is the number of Health Education Officers employed in each of the regional health authorities in England, in Wales and in Scotland;
  3. (iii) what is the number of Health Education Officers employed by each of the four H&SS Boards in Northern Ireland.

Lord Glenarthur

It is for the respective health authorities to determine the number of Health Education Officers they employ; in England there were 339 people, 321 whole time equivalents (WTEs), in 1981; and 322 people, 311 WTEs, in 1982, employed as such officers. Figures for 1983 are not yet available, but other estimates of the numbers of people (not WTEs) currently employed in health authorities in the United Kingdom are set out below; however, these estimates are not strictly comparable with DHSS figures.
