Mr. Donald Stewart

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the total sum raised by the sale of Forestry Commission land in Scotland since the passing of the Forestry Act 1981.

Between the passing of the Forestry Act 1981 and 21 January 1984 the Forestry Commission raised £17.3 million from the sale of forest land, plantations and other real assets in Scotland.

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the total area of forest land within Scotland which has been sold, or is in the process of being sold, under the terms of the Forestry Act 1981; and if he will express the figure as a percentage of the total area of land owned by the Forestry Commission prior to the passing of the Act.

At 21 January 1984 the area of plantable land, plantations and associated land in Scotland which had either been sold since the passing of the Forestry Act 1981 or was in the process of being sold, totalled 49,210 hectares.

This area of land represented some 6 per cent. of the total area land managed by the Forestry Commission in Scotland prior to the passing of the Act.

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what percentage of land owned by the Forestry Commission in the United Kingdom has been sold or is in the process of being sold since the implementation of the Forestry Act 1981.

At 21 January 1984 the total area of plantable land, plantations and associated land sold since the passing of the Act, or in the process of being sold, in Great Britain, represented some 6 per cent. of the total area of land managed by the Forestry Commission prior to the passing of the Act. The commission does not manage land in Northern Ireland.
