HC Deb 21 December 1984 vol 70 cc399-400W
Mr. Gordon Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how much has been paid out in regional development grants for (a) oil related projects and (b) other projects in the Kirkcaldy and Dunfermline travel-to-work areas in each year since 1979; and how many companies have benefited.

Mr. Allan Stewart

[pursuant to his reply, 17 December 1984, c. 25–6.]: I regret that the information requested is not available. Statistics relating to regional development grant paid before 29 November 1984 are only available for payments of £25,000 or more and these amounts have been published in British Business under employment office areas (EOA's) rather than travel-to-work areas (TTWA's). The present TTWA's of Dunfermline and Kirkcaldy comprise the former EOA's of Cowdenbeath, Glenrothes, Glenrothes New Town, Kirkcaldy and Leven and Methil, but part of Leven and Methil ceased to be a development area on 1 August 1980. The table shows the totals of regional development grants

over £25,000 paid in each year since 1979 in these EOA's, split between grants paid to oil related industries and to other industries. The grants were paid to 87 companies.
