HC Deb 21 December 1984 vol 70 c374W
Mr. O'Neill

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is the policy of Her Majesty's Government towards military actions by the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation Governments outside the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation area.

Mr. Stanley

The North Atlantic treaty is concerned only with the collective defence of the Alliance member states and the maintenance of security within the North Atlantic area. Military actions by NATO members outside this area are a matter for the individual Governments concerned.
