HC Deb 21 December 1984 vol 70 cc366-7W
Mr. Cohen

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) whether he will describe, in relation to the pilot crime reporting computer system of the Metropolitan police, its location and the number of terminals attached to the system; and if he will make a statement;

(2) whether he will list all the data fields used in the pilot crime reporting computer system of the Metropolitan police which are used for crime reporting.

Mr. Giles Shaw

I understand from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis that an experimental automated crime reporting system with one dedicated terminal has been running on P district of the Metropolitan police since 1979. The system covers only offences of burglary, theft from the person, robbery and indecency. The details held in respect of each offence are as follows: crime book number; report number; classification; date reported; whether detected or undetected; number of prisoners (if any); officer in the case; date/time of the offence; type of property stolen; value stolen; value recovered; type of premises; beat number; exhibit transfer reference number; point of entry; any marks found; details of suspects (i.e. sex, identification code, approximate ages); features of crime (up to three accepted), and location of crime.
