Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will publish in the Official Report a table showing the real rate of interest each quarter from the beginning of 1979.

There is no precise practical definition of real interest rates. An article in the December 1983 Bank of EnglandQuarterly Bulletin discusses some of the issues.
