HC Deb 21 December 1984 vol 70 c401W
Dr. Cunningham

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what advice he has received from the Scientifc Authority for Animals concerning the proposed cessation of the production of annual reports detailing the trade in animals and their products between the member states of the European Community which are controlled by the convention on international trade in endangered species of wild fauna and flora; and when he received such advice.

Mr. Patrick Jenkin

The Nature Conservancy Council, as the scientific authority for animals, has not offered me advice on the matter stated in the question. However, the NCC has supported the arrangements which my Department have made in liaison with HM Customs and Excise to maintain close checks on live animals and products of endangered species entering the United Kingdom from either EC or non-EC countries. The results are reassuring.
