§ Mr. Gordon Brownasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many complaints have been made against the police in relation to activities during the course of the miners' dispute; and how many complaints have been upheld.
§ Mr. Giles Shaw[pursuant to his reply, 14 December 1984, c. 638]: The available information is that in the period from 13 March to 11 December 1984, 516 complaints were made against police officers relating to actions arising during the course of the dispute and that 96 of these have been withdrawn. Most of the complaints are still under investigation and statistics on the number substantiated could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.
