HC Deb 20 December 1984 vol 70 c309W
Mr. Allen McKay

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what allowance is available under the housing benefit regulations to unmarried miners on strike and living with their parents.

Mr. Newton

As a result of a defect in the Housing Benefits Regulations 1982, any person living with his parents might have been entitled to housing benefit if he was liable to make payments for board and lodging which included an amount in respect of rent and rates. This defect in the regulations was corrected by the Housing Benefits Amendment (No. 4) Regulations, which were laid before the House on 18 December and came into operation on 19 December.
