HC Deb 20 December 1984 vol 70 cc301-2W
Mr. Proctor

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether development projects in southern African countries will be affected by any changes made as a result of the recently revised aid budget; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Raison

The aid budget remains as projected. We shall continue our projects in these countries as planned.

Mr. Proctor

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is the nature of existing United Kingdom development and technical aid projects in southern Africa.

Mr. Raison

Our aid to countries in southern Africa is increasingly given in the form of technical co-operation and help to buy essential spares, raw materials and other maintenance goods, as well as for schemes in their public investment programmes. More details of our aid in 1983 are given on pages 8–15 and 72–84 of my Administration's annual report, of which I am sending my hon. Friend a copy.

Mr. Proctor

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if Her Majesty's Government will review their participation in development projects in southern African countries and in Mozambique in particular.

Mr. Raison

We regularly monitor the progress of the projects in which we participate in these countries.
