Mr. Silvester

asked the Secretary of State for Transport whether he is in a position to announce the capital expenditure allocations for local authority airport investment for 1985–86.

Mr. Michael Spicer

I have decided to designate as projects of national and regional importance the following new airport investment schemes and to make the appropriate capital expenditure allocations for 1985–86.

Blackpool

  • Modernisation of electrical ring main system

Bristol

  • Terminal improvements and extension
  • Apron extension
  • Improvements to drainage
  • New fuel form

Cardiff

  • Runway extension

Carlisle

  • Paved surfaces reconstruction

East Midlands

  • Airfield lighting substations
  • Terminal development Phase 10
  • Car park surfacing

The total public expenditure provision for 1985–86 for local authority investment in airports will amount to £31 million.
