HC Deb 19 December 1984 vol 70 c181W
Mr. Janner

asked the Secretary of State for Transport how many taxi drivers and minicab drivers, and how many passengers in taxis and minicabs, have been killed and injured, respectively, in each of the last five years for which records are available.

Mrs. Chalker

In road accident and casualty reports, vehicle types are identified by their construction and not by their use at the time of the accident. Separate data of minicab driver and passenger casualties are therefore not available as private cars are generally used for this purpose.

The number of driver and passenger casualties reported to the police in vehicles constructed as taxis in the last three years was:

Driver and passenger casualties in taxis; 1981–83
1981 1982 1983
Drivers
Fatal 2 3 5
Serious 63 67 64
Slight 372 375 423
Passengers
Fatal 5 6 1
Serious 99 109 117
Slight 813 854 947

I regret that data for further years could be supplied only at disproportionate cost.
