asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what estimate his Department made of the expected annual reduction in regional development grants to Wales prior to the announcement of 28 November.

Mr. Norman Lamont

Payments under the old RDG scheme will continue for some time under the transitional arrangements. However, by 1987–88 expenditure on regional development grants in respect of Wales was estimated to be about £75 million less as a result of the new policy.

Mr. William Powell

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what has been the total of regional development grant paid in the Corby development area in (a) 1983–84 and (b) 1984–85 to date.
