Mr. Hancock

asked the Secretary of State for Defence (1) what discussions have taken place with members of his Department, either civil or military, concerning the dumping of material excavated from the tip known as the Glory Hole at Eastney, Portsmouth; and what was the outcome of these discussions;

(2) what materials were dumped at the tip known as the Glory Hole, Eastney, Portsmouth, during the years when the tip was used for his Department's surplus waste; and whether there are records to indicate whether the waste was toxic or dangerous.

The tip known as the Glory Hole at Eastney, Portsmouth, was sold by the Ministry of Defence to Portsmouth corporation in 1971. As the information requested relates to disposal action taken over 30 years ago I will write to the hon. Member.
