HC Deb 19 December 1984 vol 70 c165W
Mr. Best

asked the Lord Privy Seal approximately how many hours during the last parliamentary Session were spent on Divisions of the House.

Mr. Biffen

There were 482 Divisions in Session 1983–84. No record of the exact timings of the length of Divisions is kept. On the assumption that each Division lasted 11½ minutes—the average time established from a sample of 36 Divisions in last Session—the House spent 92 hours 23 minutes on Divisions during the Session.
