HL Deb 18 December 1984 vol 458 c636WA
Lord Grimond

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is the annual cost to the taxpayer of the National Union of Students.

The Earl of Swinton

The National Union of Students receives most of its income in affiliation fees paid by individual student unions, whose resources are derived mainly from public funds. The Government understand that affiliation fees received by the National Union of Students in the year ending 30th June 1984 amounted to £1.54 million. It is not possible to say what proportion of that sum was from public funds.
