HC Deb 18 December 1984 vol 70 c105W
18. Mr. Galley

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what representations he has received about the Manpower Services Commission's proposals for the size of the jobcentre network.

Mr. Peter Morrison

Four thousand organisations and individuals were consulted on the proposals for the jobcentre network. Replies were received from almost 3,000, including Members of Parliament, area manpower boards, local authorities, trade unions, trades councils, and Manpower Services Commission staff and their representatives.

51. Mr. Strang

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many employment service jobs will be lost as a result of the Manpower Services Commission's plans to change the jobcentre network.

Mr. Peter Morrison

The proposals for a revised jobcentre network involve a staff reduction of 530 posts over three years.

A further 450 posts will be saved over the same period as a result of the introduction into jobcentres of a more efficient computerised system for handling job vacancies.
