HL Deb 18 December 1984 vol 458 c634WA
Lord Dean of Beswick

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many chairmen of the regional health authorities and 192 district health authorities are involved in local council work, either in an elected or in a professional capacity, and whether political affiliations are a consideration in making appointments, and if so, whether they will publish the relevant information.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Health and Social Security (Lord Glenarthur)

We do not make these appointments on a political basis. All chairman of health authorities are appointed for their personal qualities and not as representatives of particular interests. For that reason, the information we hold centrally on chairmen's involvement with local authorities is neither complete nor up to date.
