When they propose to set up a committee of inquiry into the handling of geographic information in the United Kingdom, as announced in July 1984 in their reply to the report on remote sensing and digital mapping of the House of Lords Select Committee on Science and Technology (Cmnd. 9320).

My right honourable friend the Secretary of State for the Environment expects to be able to announce the terms of reference and membership of the committee early next year.
