HC Deb 18 December 1984 vol 70 c138W
Mr. Jackson

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether the review by officials of food legislation in the United Kingdom has been completed; and what further action the Government propose to take.

Mrs. Fenner

The review by officials of the relevant Departments has been completed and a report submitted to Ministers. My right hon. Friends and I have studied this report and agreed that a consultative document which discusses many aspects of the legislation should be published. Interested organisations representing consumer, manufacturing, retail, health, enforcement and many other groups will be invited to comment on the proposals contained in the document, and on the basis of the representations received we shall consider whether any changes in the law would be desirable.
