§ Mr. Tony Banksasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what was the basis on which he determined the 1984–85 grant related expenditure for the fire service in London.
§ Mr. WaldegraveGrant related expenditure for the fire service is calculated on the basis of a single national formula for all authorities comprising the following factors: population, total area, density of settlement, the average number of fire calls in 1981 and 1982, and the area of high fire risk, with adjustments for higher labour costs in and around London and special costs for the Isles of Scilly.
