§ Mr. Greenwayasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) whether he will order an inquiry into the running of Finnimore Wood youth custody centre;
(2) what representations he has received from the Prison Officers Association concerning events at Finnimore Wood youth custody centre;
(3) whether he is satisfied with the recruitment and supervision of teachers in Finnimore Wood youth custody centre.
§ Mr. MellorAt recent meetings with the prison department the Prison Officers Association made a number of assertions about misbehaviour by inmates at Finnimore Wood youth custody centre, and these are being fully investigated. We are satisfied with the recruitment and supervision of teachers at the establishment: the question of prison officer manning while evening education is taking place is under consideration.
