HC Deb 17 December 1984 vol 70 cc10-1W
Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what support his Department is giving to research into non-invasive procedures using biofeedback and electrical stimulation techniques to improve motor function after spinal cord injury.

Mr. Brooke

The Medical Research Council, which receives its grant-in-aid through the Department, is the main Government agency for the promotion of medical research in the United Kingdom. I understand that the coucil is currently supporting projects at Hammersmith hospital and the university of Hull on nerve and muscle function which could prove relevant to spinal cord injury. The council also supports a considerable amount of other basic research which may turn out to have a bearing on this kind of injury.
