HC Deb 17 December 1984 vol 70 c72W
Mr. Madden

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if, in those parts of the United Kingdom where trials have been undertaken into the consequences of deregulating bus transport, taxis were included.

Mr. David Mitchell

The trial area provisions of the Public Passenger Vehicles Act 1981 do not cover taxis. There are however other provisions of that Act under which taxis may be used to carry passengers at separate fares; they have been used successfully in some parts of the country, including the Devon trial area.
