HC Deb 14 December 1984 vol 69 cc611-2W
Mr. Tony Lloyd

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will ensure that travel concessions affected by any legislation concerning buses will be available for all buses, all taxis and all minibuses.

Mr. David Mitchell

We are still considering, in the light of the responses to our consultation paper, the availability of concessionary fares on taxi and minibus services. An announcement will be made before the Bill is introduced.

Mr. Tony Lloyd

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he has any plans to introduce a countrywide scheme of travel concessions or public transport.

Mr. David Mitchell

It is for local authorities to decide what arrangements to make for concessionary travel in their areas, and how to help elderly people most effectively within the resources available to them.

Mr. Tony Lloyd

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will ensure that the Bill concerning buses will guarantee the value of travel concessions; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. David Mitchell

under our proposals local authorities will retain the power to decide what level of travel concessions to provide.
