Mr. Chris Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what were the estimated numbers of supplementary benefit claimants living (a) in hostels or common lodging houses and (b) as boarders in 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, and 1984, respectively.

Information for 1979 to 1983—using provisional data for 1983—is given in the table. Data for 1984 have not yet been collected.
