HC Deb 14 December 1984 vol 69 c666W
Mr. Meacher

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how much the Post Office measures to counteract the effects of his Department's strike at Newcastle is expected to cost up to the end of 1984.

Mr. Newton

[pursuant to his reply, 6 December 1984, c. 271]: The scale of payments to the Post Office is still a matter of commercial negotiation and full accounting for its additional work will not be available until after the dispute. However, it is estimated that the cost up to the end of December 1984 will be of the order of £65 million to £70 million.
