HC Deb 14 December 1984 vol 69 c612W
Mr. Peter Bruinvels

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will withdraw his Department's "Keep Low" campaign regarding drinking and driving.

Mrs. Chalker

No. I believe that the campaign has an important part to play in making young people more aware of the dangers of drinking and driving and in encouraging responsible attitudes.

Mr. Peter Bruinvels

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will amend his Department's current advertising campaign concerning drinking and driving so that it does not encourage anyone to partake of alcoholic drinks and then to drive.

Mrs. Chalker

The aim of the campaign is to make young people more aware of the dangers of drinking and driving in a way to which they will respond. The campaign does not offer any encouragement for the view that it is safe to drink before driving, and I believe that the audience at whom it is aimed will understand its message quite clearly.
