HC Deb 14 December 1984 vol 69 cc617-8W
Mr. Dalyell

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many (a) Royal Navy ships and (b) British military aircraft have made use of Chilean facilities at (i) Punta Arenas and (ii) Teniente Marsh on King George Island in the last 12 months.

Mr. Lee

No Royal Navy ships or British military aircraft have visited Punta Arenas during the last 12 months. An RAF Hercules used the Chilean antarctic base at Tiniente Ridolfo March Martin on 23 February 1984 to evacuate a casualty from HMS Endurance, and HMS Endurance herself paid a routine call at the base on 29 February.
