HC Deb 13 December 1984 vol 69 c555W
Mr. Corbett

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether he will now take steps to ban the import of skins of fur-bearing animals taken in the wild by steel-toothed traps.

Mr. Channon

Trade in skins of endangered species is already regulated under the Endangered Species (Import and Export) Act 1976. It would not be practicable to ban imports on the basis of trapping methods because of the difficulty in determining how furs had been obtained.
