§ Sir George YoungEn 1983–84 my Department gave final approval to 57 projects worth £87 million comprising £69 million of private investment and £18 million of urban development grant and other public funds. Since then a further 51 projects worth £155 million, involving £124 million of private investment and £31 million of UDG and other public funds, have been approved. Expenditure on these projects will be spread over several years. Another 24 projects worth £108 million, involving £90 million of private investment and £18 million of UDG and other public funds, have received offers of grant to which responses from local authorities remain outstanding.
