§ Mr. Canavanasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will make a statement about the introduction of direct elections in Hong Kong prior to 1997.
§ Sir Geoffrey HoweThe Hong Kong Government White Paper, published on 21 November, set out arrangements for the indirect election of 24 Members of the Legislative Council which will be introduced in 1985. There will be a review in 1987 which will cover matters such as the introduction of direct elections.
