HC Deb 12 December 1984 vol 69 c540W
Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what was the number and percentage of households in Scotland at the latest available date whose incomes were (a) below supplementary benefit level, (b) at a level eligible for supplementary benefit and (c) at or up to 40 per cent. above supplementary benefit level; and what were the corresponding figures for May 1979.

Mr. Whitney

The latest available information relates to estimates of numbers of families and single people on low incomes in 1981. These estimates and those for 1979 represent the average over each year and are shown in the table. The assumptions on which the estimates are based are those used and described in a set of tables entitled "Low Income Families — 1981", a copy of which is lodged in the Library.

Two regions have already submitted their strategic plans and the remaining regions are still working to the original deadline of 31 March 1985. We have not received any other representations on this matter.
