§ Mr. Dobsonasked the Secretary of State for the Environment why he has decided to increase with effect from 25 December the compensation payable to landlords whose property is the subject of a control order by their local council.
§ Sir George YoungSection 78 of the Housing Act 1964, as amended, imposes a duty on local authorities to pay compensation, fixed by reference to rateable values, to landlords who are dispossessed by a control order. The last rating revaluation took place in 1973. The level of compensation was adjusted in 1981 by Statutory Instrument 1981/781. S.I. 1984/1629 takes account of the change in values since then.
