HC Deb 11 December 1984 vol 69 cc409-10W
Mr. Canavan

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is the estimated cost to his Department of assistance given to the police in connection with the miners' strike.

Mr. Stanley

We continue to anticipate no cost to the Department.

62. Mr. Peter Bruinvels

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will advise service men not to become involved in the miners' dispute while off duty.

Mr. Stanley

I do not believe that there is any necessity for general advice to be issued at the present time.

There has, to our knowledge, been only one case of a service man becoming involved in this dispute whilst off duty, which was the one referred to in the answer that my hon. Friend the Minister of State, Home Office gave to my hon. Friend on 16 November.
