Mr. Donald Stewart

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what sum his Department is planning to spend in the next financial year on air pollution damage to crops and trees in the United Kingdom; and how the sum compares with the amount spent in the current financial year.

Expenditure by the Department on research into the effects of air pollution on crops and trees in the United Kingdom is expected to exceed £300,000 in 1985–86. About £250,000 will be spent in the current financial year.
