HC Deb 10 December 1984 vol 69 cc333-4W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what recent representations he has received from the teacher unions regarding the likely effect on the education service of the imposition of value added tax on books and journals; what response he has made; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Dunn

My right hon. Friend has recently received a collective resolution on this issue from the National Union of Teachers, the National Association of Teachers in Further and Higher Education, the National Association of Schoolmasters/Union of Women Teachers, the Assistant Masters and Mistresses Association, the National Association of Head Teachers and the Secondary Heads Association from whom he has also received an individual representation. He will be responding to the resolution shortly.
