HC Deb 10 December 1984 vol 69 c384W
Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the cost to the National Health Service of smoking-induced diseases; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

[pursuant to the reply, 6 December 1984, c. 270]: I regret that because of a typing error the current estimated cost to the National Health Service in England and Wales of diseases attributable to smoking appeared as "about £120 million a year" instead of "about £170 million a year".
