HC Deb 10 December 1984 vol 69 cc397-8W
Viscount Cranborne

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether he will make a statement about his Department's proposals for a reorganisation of the REME static workshops.

Mr. Lee

Extensive consultation has taken place since the consultative memorandum on the REME static workshops was issued on 28 June. Trade union representatives have received a full presentation on the background to the review's conclusions, while my noble Friend the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Armed Forces has discussed the issues with representatives of the communities affected and of the two workshops recommended for closure. Detailed representations have been received from many interested parties, including hon. Members, and these have of course been given most careful consideration. However, no significant new points have emerged from this process, and we have therefore decided to implement the proposals in full.
