HC Deb 10 December 1984 vol 69 cc393-4W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what studies he has initiated to establish how the planning commission for London will fill the strategic planning role now performed by the Greater London council; and when these studies will be completed.

Mr. Macfarlane

Planning powers will be devolved to the London boroughs, and it is not intended that the London Planning Commission will assume responsibility for functions at present carried out by the GLC. The role of the Commission will be to advise my right hon. Friend on the guidance he will issue to the boroughs for the preparation of their unitary development plans and on other matters relating to the planning and development of greater London.
