HC Deb 07 December 1984 vol 69 c308W
Mr. Ashdown

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what representations he has made to the United States Government about their refusal to allow certain British scientists assisting this Government in high technology to attend some scientific conferences in the United States of America; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Renton

We have expressed to the United States Government our concern over undue restrictions on the access by British scientists and technologists to conferences and seminars in the United States. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office continues to keep closely in touch with developments in the United States and with leading scientific organisations in the United Kingdom.
