§ Mrs. Renée Shortasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what specific new developments are going to be financed in the 21 new towns of England and Wales resulting from the assets acquired from the sale by development corporations of commercial and industrial property.
§ Sir George YoungThe accounts of the development corporations and the Commission for the New Towns (HC/ 83/84/ 610 and 611) show that in 1983–84 in the 21 new towns in England there were capital receipts of £151,198,000, which supported capital investment of £192,464,000. About £77 million of these capital receipts came from the disposal of industrial and commercial assets. An analysis of the capital expenditure by each corporation is contained in the first schedule to each set of accounts. The accompanying annual reports highlight the more significant individual projects. In the current and future financial years, capital receipts will continue to support generally the housing, sewerage, roads, commercial, industrial and amenity investment of the new towns. The two new towns in Wales are the responsibility of my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Wales.
