HC Deb 07 December 1984 vol 69 cc323-4W
Mr. John Townend

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) what is the total amount paid to date by his Department as benefits to striking miners in respect of mortgage interest;

(2) what is the total cost of housing benefit to striking miners to the most recent available date;

(3) what is the maximum any striking miner's family has received in any one week in social security benefit;

(4) what is the maximum any striking miner, in any week, has received from social security in respect of mortgage interest.

Mr. Newton

I regret that the information requested in respect of supplementary benefit could be obtained only at disproportionate cost; and in respect of housing benefit is not available since local authorities have no need to identify separately claims from people involved in a trade dispute.
