Mr. Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many workers in the United Kingdom are covered by wages councils; and if he will show how this figure has altered over the past seven years.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

I refer the hon. Member to my hon. Friend's reply to the hon. Member for Wolverhampton, North-East (Mrs. Short) on 21 June 1984 at column249–52.

Mr. Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the number of workers in Scotland whose wages are governed by wages council legislation; if he will give a breakdown by wages council sector; and if he will show the number of workers in each regional or district council, whichever is most convenient.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

Estimates of the number of workers in scope of wages councils are only available for Great Britain as a whole.
