HC Deb 06 December 1984 vol 69 c267W
Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will list the specific action taken by each member state of the European Economic Community to comply with the requirements of Community directive 79/7/EEC on equal treatment in social security; if any countries have requested a deferment of the obligations; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Whitney

The most recent information on the action taken by each member state of the EC to comply with Community directive 79/7/EEC is contained in the "Interim Report on the application of directive 79/7/EEC of 19 December 1978 (COM(83)793 final)" issued by the Commission of the European Communities on 6 January, a copy of which is in the Library.

The implementation period for the directive expires on 22 December. Within a year of this date member states are required to provide the Commission with all information necessary to enable them to draw up a report on the application of the directive for submission to the council. When this final report on the application of the directive is published a copy will be placed in the Library.
