§ Mrs. Beckettasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what savings he expects to make as a result of (a) changes in the way supplementary benefit board and lodging ceilings are set, (b) restrictions on local and 227W lodging payments to young supplementary benefit claimants and (c) changes in the way supplementary benefit residential care and nursing home ceilings are set.
§ Mr. Newton[pursuant to his reply, 20 November 1984, c. 120]: At this stage it is not possible to give precise estimates of the savings from the proposals announced by my right hon. Friend on 29 November, which are set out in a consultative document and have been referred to the Social Security Advisory Committee for consultation. We expect the savings to be of the order of £70 million in 1985–86 and somewhat higher in subsequent years.
