HL Deb 05 December 1984 vol 457 c1438WA
Lord Constantine of Stanmore

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether members of the public have the right, through the consumer consultative committees, to inspect the audited accounts of each water authority.

Lord Skelmersdale

By virtue of paragraph 39C of Schedule 3 to the Water Act 1973, as substituted by Schedule 4 to the Local Government Finance Act 1982, any local government elector in the related area is entitled to inspect the accounts of a water authority, to question the auditor and to draw to his attention matters on which he may report.

There are no plans to amend this entitlement. Water authorities' annual reports and the audited accounts for 1983–84 were laid before both Houses of Parliament on 24th October 1984.
